The north/south MetroLink extension would provide a major transit infrastructure investment for the region. This project would extend MetroLink service to some of the most densely populated and transit oriented neighborhoods in the region. Local alternatives for a route have already been studied, with extensive resident input and participation.

Points Against

Since the opening of the St. Louis, MO MetroLink, July 31, 1993, it has ran fiscally in the red. This project is barely used in comparison to the vehicles (after 15 years) traveling daily within the St. Louis County / City region. The MetroLink controlling board has consistently asked the St. Louis region for funds to operate.

This federal expenditure is directly in conflict with the voice of the people that voted it down as early 2008. The last expansion of the project, extending to the southern part of the county, was millions of dollars over budget and ran behind schedule. Thus, illustrating the lack of fiscal discipline the governing board has over the management of such projects.
