Call your local government and ask for details. Part of the eventual "Northwest Corridor" which will eventually directly link I-40 to 550. The corridor is different than the proposed Northwest Loop, which nearly all of the right of way has been obtained. This road will facilitate traffic from north Rio Rancho to the new City Center. It will help alleviate congestion on Highway 528 between 550 and Idalia and will be a more direct route to get to the City Center from the north end of town.
[edit] Points in Favor
Economic development follows well thought out road projects such as this. This road will create new opportunities and will create access to jobs for many years to come. It will also relieve some traffic on vital roads today. The area is growing and Rio Rancho continues to grow at about 10 times the national average. Proper planning is necessary to control orderly growth and this project will compliment the planning already done on the new city center, arena, HP and other projects.
[edit] Points Against
It just adds more traffic/commuters to the bottleneck in Bernalillo now if this gets approved. We need a road straight to I-25 around Bernalillo to stop congestion on the Northern part of Rio Rancho and Hwy. 528. Money spent here means that a better solution of moving employment centers west does not get addressed.
