[edit] General Description

Please help improve this project page by replacing this text with a description and other factual information about the project. Don't know much about the project? Call your local government and ask for details. Cleveland has been trying to either improve or build new airport for more than 20 years. Our town is heavy industrial -- over 140 and at least 12 are Fortune 500. An airport is critical to our growth and progress. Our current airport is small and run down and FAA will not improve it. We must have new one. Land is acquired and process is shovel ready!!! it will mean a great deal to the future of our community.

[edit] Points in Favor

An airport is important for our community since we have such a large industrial base and jobs depend on their productivity. Our airport is dangerous and we have needed to replace for more than 20 years. We are now shovel ready...

[edit] Points Against

Cleveland has wasted their time for 30 years about the need for an airport. They have had the chance to purchase the land adjacent to the current ariport for those 30 years and did not do so. Do not waste our tax dollars on something that only serves a small minority of the citizens. The millions that they want to spend just to move the waterway that goes through the middle of the land they want now is a waste of your hard earned dollars.

I would rather see this money go into education. I am a business person and even had visitors from Germany yesterday, but I would not spend one single penny on an airport here. To spend this much of OUR TAX PAYING DOLLARS to cater to a couple of dozen people is ludicrous. Chattanooga airport is only 30 miles away and it is already built with airlines coming in daily.

If this project depends upon this money to be completed, and it's been prevented for long years already because other projects were more important, what has suddenly changed? The stimulus package is not designed to suddenly shoo in projects that nobody wanted before. It's designed to stimulate the local economy and enable greater use of local abilities to produce and use.

Given that auto and other heavy mfg industries are going to the wall as we write, it would make more sense to concentrate on other things than providing an airport that will only supplement what is already available in Chattanooga and other nearby areas.

It would be more astute to look at using it, for example, at improving access to the rail network and putting a case for passenger services to this part of the state. At present, you either travel to Memphis or New Bern to use Amtrak. Or Atlanta or Charlotte NC. Just a thought, but there are many more alternatives to using the money for something that will essentially only benefit a few of the local citizenry.

Education is, always, going to be the best first option, for our future depends upon our children. We should wise them up, not dumb them down.
