[edit] General Description
The Woodmen Road project has been identified as one of only a few east-west corridors in the City of Colorado Springs. In the Spring of 2002, the City began an Environmental Assessment along with El Paso County for widening Woodmen Road from I-25 to US 24 in Falcon. A plan has been developed to address the current and future traffic needs along Woodmen and will also incorporate safety, pedestrian, and bicycle improvements. The overall project budget, including 2 interchanges and widening the road to Powers Boulevard is estimated at $125 million.
The first phase of construction will be the interchange at Academy Boulevard. It will include widening and roadway improvements from Campus Drive to Stinson Road. Major features include bicycle lanes, pedestrian facilities, a bridge at Academy, and landscaping and aesthetics. See the project website at http://www.woodmenroad.com/ This project is estimated to be approximately $40 million.
