Edit the Wiki Description (editing policy)
A proposed hotel is to be developed as part of a larger mixed-use project in Downtown Albuquerque. Specifically, a proposed 550-room Sheraton Convention Center Hotel would be developed in conjunction with a planned 12,000-seat multi-purpose Event Center, an entertainment, restaurant, and retail zone, and leased retail and restaurant space at the base of the hotel. Further, the overall development would also enjoy proximity to the Rail Runner tracks connecting the Alvarado Train Station with the Convention Center and the Event Center. A study is available on-line which considers the future success of a Convention Center Hotel.

[edit] Points in Favor
Upon a review of the subject site, the study determined that the site was indeed well suited to hotel development given its excellent accessibility from two major freeways, its location proximate to Albuquerque International Sunport, and proximity to area businesses and leisure amenities.
[edit] Points Against
An article about two years ago in Forbes (specifically regarding new/enlarged convention centers) pointed out that in ALL cases the consultants favored the project, but in very few was the project adequately used. The Rio Rancho arena is similarly underutilized, and pro sports in NM have generally not done well. (Lobo basketball is another story).
