Wiki Description

[edit] General Description

This project creates an extension of the Katy trail from Skillman (Phase III end) to the DART station on Northwest Highway. The trail is parallel to the DART line on the rail/utility power line right of way to the intersection with the Union Pacific rail right of way, and then follows the UP right of way to Northwest Highway.

[edit] Points in Favor

To increase links with the Dallas trail system and DART

This Katy trail extension runs between Lovers Lane and Mockingbird Lane until it reaches Northwest Highway. The trails described in the Points Against comments below are all north of Northwest Highway.

[edit] Points Against

The project is described improperly. The distance from Skillman to the Dart Station is less than a mile. And there is already a multi-use trail (walking, running, cycling, horseback riding, etc.) running between these points.

Moreover, if the trail in question is the one that will connect the existing White Rock Trail to the Lake Highlands Town Center (www.lakehighlandstowncenter.com), the trail would run from Walnut Hill to the existing trail (or DART station), a distance of less than two miles.
