The existing water system that feeds Fort Tuthill is a 4 inch Cast Iron waterline that was installed in 1898. The line is over 100 years old. The second source of water is 6” dia waterline that was installed in the mid 1950’s that is stretched beyond its capacity. The existing water lines are undersized, deteriorating and require a high amount of maintenance. The lines are too small to provide adequate fire protection in the event of a fire.
This project is designed to accomplish the following: • Provide adequate water infrastructure and fire flows for this area, reduce threat of catastrophic fire damage and insurance costs to the city and county residents in this area. • Reduces likelihood of catastrophic fire destroying Southwestern area of Flagstaff, Pine Del neighborhood and the Fort Tuthill / Luke Air Force base facilities. • This project is ready for construction and will provide approximately 50 local job opprortunities.
